When referring to inner game, specifically I’m referring to what is going on inside of your head.\u00a0 Typically in business or sports or academics or relationships or cooking or driving or playing golf or chess or cards, there are two constructs.\u00a0 There is the technique, in other-words, the rules of the game.\u00a0 And then there is what’s going on in your head, with respect to past, present, future and your experiences with respect to the game that is going on in front of you.\u00a0 And when I use the word game, I don’t mean to trivialize whatever it is that you’re working on, far from it.\u00a0 We are serious people and this is serious business.\u00a0 But I like to refer to it as a “game” because most games have rules and boundaries and you have to learn those rules and boundaries and how to win at that particular thing, in order to be good at it.<\/p>\n
So take the game of golf for instance, if you know the rules, and you know how to win, that’s the outer-game.\u00a0 \u00a0 The inner-game then, is how you think about it.\u00a0 What emotions do you bring to the table when playing the game of golf.\u00a0 What experiences do you bring when you play the game.\u00a0 How was your last shot.\u00a0 What is your self image around you as a golfer.\u00a0 What is your self talk cycle when it comes to you as a golfer.\u00a0 \u00a0How do other people see you as a golfer?\u00a0 What are your habits when it comes to golf? What are your comfort zones?\u00a0 How about your expectations?<\/p>\n
Some challenges look like outer-game problems when they’re actually inner game problems.<\/p>\n
For example, in the marketing business, will GoogleAds be the key? Or some other PPC solution?\u00a0 What about SEO ?\u00a0 or is it fear?\u00a0 or time management, or limiting beliefs?<\/p>\n
Success in any industry is 20% tech, or outer game, and 80% inner game.<\/p>\n
